| Bio: | A little about me: Born in land which made me understand functions whose derivatives are never everywhere zero; later studied some math. Earliest friends: a cat and a mythology book. Thought I had an epic romance, turned out to be one of those movies where the plot functions because the main characters are really dumb, married him anyway, yay. Aspiring godlike autodidact aiming for geekiness in nearly everything except computers, which I tolerate as fun toys; teach me a dead language sometime, or see below. Occasional most popular person; usually introverted, homey. Meep!
A little about my journal: this is my (albeit too-slow) reading project.
I want to read. I want people to recommend books for me to read. When I'm done, I post a description of the book.
These are the categories in which I want to read stuff:
- Classics of Western Literature (tm) -- books I should have read
- History -- American, European (early, royalty, maybe Renaissance), patristics, the ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, maybe central Asia; biography
- Art History -- taxonomy, bad; how people construct languages of symbol and how these languages evolve, good
- Classics -- mythology, linguistics, history, &c
- Poetry -- I am particular; if you don't know my tastes, don't recommend free verse
- Fiction which is good
- Nonfiction which is good
